Diplomatic immunities are fundamental to the effective functioning of diplomatic missions. Yet, their practical application can raise complex legal questions, particularly when diplomatic privileges intersect with accountability and the interests of the host state.
On 12 November 2026, Vanbelle Law Boutique and Club Diplomatique de Belgique will bring this topic into focus during an interactive seminar entitled “Immunities of Diplomatic Missions: Genuine Privileges or Sometimes a Poisoned Gift?”
A closer look at diplomatic immunities
The seminar will explore the role of diplomatic immunities and the questions that arise from their application in practice. Through an interactive round-table workshop and seminar, participants will have the opportunity to engage with a subject that sits at the intersection of diplomacy, law and international relations.
The session will be led by Jo Vanbelle, Managing Partner of Vanbelle Law Boutique. In addition to his legal practice, Jo is a deputy judge in the Brussels Metropolitan Area and a former Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Belgium.
